The outside finished

So, after some blood sweat and a few tears, the outside of the shed is finished

To celebrate I'm running a competition to name the shed. Not sure if there will be a prize a such, but think of the kudos. The best name will be posted above the door for all time. Names like "dolls" and "Wendy" will be automatically disqualified cos your not taking it seriously. Bonne Chance!

  3. "Brookes' House"

    From Rupert Brookes WWI peom'The Soldier':

    If I should die, think only this of me:
    That there's some corner of a foreign field
    That is for ever England. There shall be
    In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
    A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
    Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
    A body of England's, breathing English air,
    Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

    And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
    A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
    Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
    Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
    And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
    In hearts at peace, under an English heaven

  4. Thanks, Alan. Reading the poem reminded me of sitting outside the green man when we we kid's and good times with old friends.

  5. Well after reading the last post i don't feel i can mention my other idea, but im gonna go for it anyway! Well, the shed is going to be a workshop, all that hammering & banging so i thought "The Knocking Shop" would be a good name lol

  7. Trust Claireabella, I'm just glad you will be on hand to explain the name to the neighbours? Anyway I've told all the neighbours that it's Julia's workshop so technically it would have to be "Julia's Knocking Shop". I look forward to that lemonade though.

  8. That's three so far, closing date will be Friday 21st may, so if you want to go down in shed history, you've got till then to come up with a name. Best quote so far goes to Bridget for "The talk of South West Michigan". I like it, like it a lot:-)

  10. My entry for this most pretigious competitions is: bijou hütte

    In recognition of the multi-purpose nature of this magnificent edifice and the international exposure of said creation.

    Bijou means jewel (or jewellery) in 6 languages and hutte (or hütte) means hut, cabin, cottage, home, or shed in 4 languages.

  12. Ah now we have some serious competition! 11:00PM and 1 hour till closing. Counting will begin at 12 and continue late into the night and early morning; results are expected by 10am. Like England this is not a democracy and so I will of course be using the first past the post method.

  13. OK the winner is.........(drum roll)....................................

  14. ?!?

    You can't call it '.........(drum roll)....................................'

    Think of those poor ebay sellers writing:

    Mme & M. Quinn
    .........(drum roll)....................................
    La Foucadiere
    Normandy

  15. And the winner is:

    "Glorious Peoples' bijou hütte No2"

    Its a combination of Tina and Marks suggestions. But because I also like Alans, I'm putting a copy of Rupert Brookes poem over the fire place. And Julia will of course always now refer to it as the "knocking shop". All those who entered win a free camping spot in France for life.

  16. Well like you said, its Julias shed, so if she refers to it as the knocking shop, then that HAS to be the true winner lol
